I'm a survivor!

Glad to see the chipmunks here survived. Last year I had a few chipmunk families but the neighbors cat decimated them. I was thrilled to see this little one this afternoon.

Mimicry goes wrong

I can't help but think there's an error in the mimicry of the "eye spot" of the Owl Butterfly, because to me, it looks like it mimics my cat's eye. see below.

Look at the coloration in this Scarlet Mormon Butterfly

This isn't the best picture in the world, but look at the detail scroll design in this Scarlet Mormon Butterfly! This picture was taken at the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Blue Morpho Butterfly

The Blue Morpho in flight at the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They have such a beautiful collection of butterflies, I captures pictures of as many as I could. I wish I had more time. Guess I'll have to go back!

Owl Butterfly Eye Spot Looks So Realistic

Owl butterflies at the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They are amazing at mimicry. When their wings are completely spread open, it looks just like a huge owl face. Enough to scare off many smaller predators.

I almost ran this guy over!

I was driving home in the rain at 10:30 pm and I could see something in the road, it looked like a giant night crawler from the car. I swerved in time, (no one else was on the road so,  no, I didn't cause an accident) and I got out to see what it was. It was this really big yellow spotted salamander, Ambystoma maculatum I looked it up and they're only supposed to get to about 7 inches long: tip to tip.  This one had to be 8, so I ran and got a ruler and it as just over 8 inches long! I can't believe I could see it on such a dark, rainy night.
